Emergency travel document (ETD)

The EU embassies in Reykjavik divide the non-represented EU countries in Iceland between them and provide Emergency Travel Documents (ETD) to citizens of those non-represented member states.

The Danish Embassy has Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia. If citizens from those countries need a travel document they need to provide proof (police report) of their passport being stolen, lost, destroyed or temporarily unavailable (EU council decision 95/553/CFSP and 96/409/CSFP).

The applicant must make an appointment at the embassy, bring a valid ID or a copy of the lost passport, a passport picture and the travel information (ticket). The embassy then contacts the applicants nearest diplomatic mission and they verify the ID and give us permission to issue the ETD. That process can take up to 10 days.

The fee for an Emergency Travel Document is 23.000 kr. and we do not accept cash.
