Position: Administrative Deputy Head of Embassy

Type of employment: Full time permanent employment

The Embassy is seeking to recruit an energetic, outgoing and motivated colleague to our team in Reykjavik. As Administrative Deputy Head of Mission, you will have an important role in the daily work at the Embassy together with the Ambassador.

You will get the opportunity to work with all aspects of the bilateral relationship with Iceland covering both political, economic, commercial and cultural aspects. Iceland ranks at the top in human and social development and plays a significant geopolitical role in the growing focus on security challenges in The High North. You will be involved in most facets of the Embassy’s work, which requires a flexible approach, and you will work closely together with embassy colleagues, Nordic Trade Council colleagues and colleagues in The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen.

Main tasks and responsibilities as Administrative Deputy Head are the following:

  • Research, analysis and reporting on Icelandic foreign and EU policy as well as sectoral policies e.g. energy/climate, health and infrastructure
  • Export promotion, economic diplomacy and commercial activities
  • Press matters, social media presence
  • Management issues, including Human Resources, coaching and quality assurance
  • Day-to-day responsible for Embassy internal security
  • Stand-in in the Ambassador’s absence at all relevant administrative assignments

Personal and social qualifications

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Transparency, readiness to share knowledge and learn from others
  • Dedicated and responsible team-player with ability to work independently
  • Ability to foster and maintain networks and manage stakeholders
  • A positive, open-minded, pro-active and creative approach to work
  • Keen sense of responsibility, ability to multi-task and deliver under time pressure

Required qualifications

  • Excellent analytical skills and sound judgment
  • Broad knowledge of European politics and economics
  • Experience with export promotion and economic diplomacy
  • Relevant university degree
  • Fluency in Danish and English languages, both written and oral
  • Knowledge of Icelandic is of course an advantage
  • Candidates with prior management experience will be preferred
  • IT proficiency and solid skills regarding Microsoft Office and Social Media

Salary and contract

Salary according to qualifications and in accordance with the embassy salary policy.

The position of the Administrative Deputy for the Head of Mission is locally employed in accordance with the embassy’s Staff Rules. We are an equal opportunity employer that offers flexible working hours, 25 working days of paid annual leave, local health insurance, 24/7 coverage by the Danish MFA’s Collective Private Accident Insurance etc. Some travelling in the region is to be expected.
